Wheel fitment help.
I just got my F30 this past weekend which I ordered 8 weeks ago. It's great and I love it. I've also had some wheels/tires that I was going to throw on it but it turns out they were staggered and I bought the wrong size tires
So anyway, the specs are this: 18x8.5J fronts 18x9.5J rears The guys at Discount Tire didn't have the F30 in their system so they weren't positive what size tires would fit in the wheel wells. Here are their suggestions, but they weren't completely sure: 235 or 245/40/18 Fronts 225 or 265/35/18 Rears Does anybody know what the official specs are for the F30--as in, which tires will fit period, or fit without sticking out to much, etc? Any help is appreciated! Last edited by NeverOddOrEven; 08-28-2012 at 10:07 AM. |

235 is the widest I've seen on the front. 265 is not a problem on the rear. Sounds like the offsets of the wheels are wrong, not the tires, if they're sticking out.

Yeah, I went with these wheels: http://www.fujicorporation.com/img/u...ew/14119_2.jpg I've never seen them on an F30 so I guess I'll be the first.

Do you know the offsets?

Not off the top of my head--are they printed somewhere on the wheels?

Sometimes they are. Did you just buy the wheels? If you link us to where you got them I'd think it would list the offsets there.

Yea, that is way too aggressive an offset for the rear. We're running VMR V718s in 19x8.5 ET35 fronts and 19x9.5 ET45 rear on the Project 328i.
http://www.velocitymotoring.com/wheels_v718.html Tires are 235/40/19 front and 275/35/19 rear. You really should just sell those and get something that fits the F30. I bet ModBargains or one of our other sponsors can get you the same wheels in the right offset. EDIT - Stagger is just fine, you just have the wrong offset Tim

I see. So if I were to go ahead and mount the rears on, say, 255s, would they fit or would the calipers clip? Would it be safer to go with a wider tire instead?
I don't really have the time or energy to sell the wheels and get new ones, so I want to weigh my options with mounting them anyway in terms of any wheel damage or safety issues... Last edited by NeverOddOrEven; 08-13-2012 at 12:08 PM. |

It's not an issue of tires. The wheels will stick out, you're 12mm, or about half an inch further out then what we're running. It won't clip on the calipers, you're going the other way. It will likely hit on the fender sheet metal. Thinner tires might help with clearance issues, but how much is doing to depend on the tires. Different brands have different shoulder profiles.

Yes, I've come to terms with having to sell my existing wheels. I've been debating with these two:
18x8 ET 37 Stick out 4mm or 18x8.5 ET 35 Stick out 14 mm Which one would be more ideal? |

Sorry that you had to go this way around but I'm happy you're getting the right wheels for your F30. I would want 8.5" wheels and ET35 looks good on this car -
http://www.f30driver.com/forum/showp...40&postcount=4 Those are 19x8.5 but going a size down to 18x8.5 won't effect the offsets.

On that guy's original post he says he used 235 in the front and 255 in the back. Another newb question, but will the extra width go towards the inside the of the car? So suppose he got 235s in the back as well, would the outside side wall be at the same position as the 255s?

It would be split, the tire is going to naturally center over the tire.
