335i packages and options

Hello All,
I just signed up with F30 Driver and have never owned a BMW. I want to start off by saying thank you for all the great posts, they are very helpful with the car buying experience.

I just sent in my order for a 335i xdrive sedan with the m-sport package. I have also inlcude the technology package, premium package, and cold weather package. Options are the BMW Apps, BMW Assist/w BT & USB, and the 19" wheels.

Since the production doesn't begin until July I have some time to choose the colors and trim and anything else I may have missed. Suggestions?

Still debating over the color. Torn between black sapphire metallic and glacier silver metallic. The black on black looks great but I live in the Pacific NW so it will be impossible to keep clean.

Does anyone know if the BMW Apps is worth the $250? It looks like it just allows you to play web based music from around the world but I may be missing something. Was curious about the premium sound as well. Is the sound quality really worth the $950 if I don't care about the sattelite radio?

Can't wait until the September delivery!

I got a F30 and when i was putting my car together, i didnt know i had to get BMW assist just to get the BMW apps. So i paid the extra $650.00 to get the BMW apps but i think its worth it. You can check your FB, Twitter and emails on the Navi screen. I think the 18" wheels look better than the 19", so i got the 18" and buying some aftermarket 19s. The stock sound system is very nice. You can save that $950 and get a nice subwoofer for the trunk... 10" will do.

I would get silver, black is impossible to take care of. It looks great when it is clean, but that is so infrequently. BMW Apps is OK, but not great. If you're all ready getting the tech package then adding it on for $250 is probably worth it. It's best for longer trips because of the connecting/sync time (over 1 min), which in a 5-10min short trip is longer then it sounds and by the time it finally connects you've already found something on the radio. I would not get the premium sound unless your really into music. I agree with AlpineWhiteF30 about the wheels. I'd get aftermarket 19"s, the factory 19"s are only so-so and come with undersized width run flat tires.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I will go with the silver. I wish they had a darker gray leather interior. I am afraid the silver and black may clash a bit but everything else is too light so that will have to work.
I agree on the rims with the sport package. I even asked if they could put the luxury package 18s on the sport model with no luck. However the F30 m sport catalog is out and the m sport has the option of the 403M19s. I think these look pretty sharp but they still probably have the same issue of the undersized run flats. I believe these are the same rims that the estoril blue show model is sporting.
That also confirms my thoughts on the sound system. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. This is my gift to self after three back to back deployments.

Hi. I'm really interested in learning how you went through the ordering process for a July production / September delivery? This will be a 2013 model year car, and I have yet to see the ordering guide. Did you place the order without negotiating a price, or did you find a CA who was willing to give you a set price around some reference (like MSRP or invoice)?

I'm hoping to order a 335i for September delivery as well, but didn't think I could go in to order until June (or at least until the ordering sheet was available). Any info is much appreciated!

Hi Tim-
Would you please elaborate on the connecting/sync time for the BMW Apps? Does this apply to certain apps, or all apps? Does it take over a minute to start up Pandora, for instance?

Thanks!

Sentinel,
I haven't got the set price yet. June sounds about the right time frame for going final with my order. I haven't picked color, trim or wheels yet. The estimate for the xdrive is 2K more and the m sport package around 4K but listed as TBD on my purchase order. Sales agent said the preorder should secure a JUL build slot.

I was just wondering if the new 2012 328i base model comes with the blueish color angel eyes (like the 5 series and X5) not the yellowish color from the older model.

I'd say they're perfectly white. More pics of our Project 328i here -

Those idiots are correct. A 328i F30 base model does NOT come with the xenon lights. It is an OPTION you can add for $900. But in order for this option to even be available for the 328i, you must first add the Premium Package which is $3600. So essentially, you have to pay an extra $4500 to get the xenon lights.

Tim says that the lights are "perfectly white" and you consider it a "straight answer" that the xenons come standard on a base model 328i? Are you kidding me?

That's being harsh. I consider the 328i to be the base model, you could read that two ways. The 328i is the base F30 BMW 3 Series, or you could read it that the base 328i does not have corona rings/angle eyes.

As mentioned to get xenons does require the premium package. If you wanted leather and a sunroof it really isn't a bad deal.

Any more questions about buying your 2012 F30 BMW 3 series let me know.

Have a good weekend all,
Tim
