The F30Driver Project Car, a 2012 BMW 3 Series 328i in Melbourne Red Metallic, is on order and getting ready to go into production in Munich! We have some big plans for the launch of the car including planning some meets around the time the car is being delivered at the Performance Delivery Center in South Carolina this spring. ![]() The full option list is extensive but the most important option is listed in bold below:
We are still formulating plans but expect the F30Driver project car to be modded right out of the gate ... we want to show just how amazing the F30 can look with some tweaks. A special thank you goes out to Jon Shafer and BMW Santa Barbara for working with us to ensure an extremely early delivery to the Performance Delivery Center in South Carolina! Stay tuned to F30Driver and Bimmerfest for details leading up to delivery and throughout the development of the car. You don't want to miss out on what we are going to do!

I’m a big manual fan, but that 8 speed auto is pretty impressive. I’m interested to see a comparison between the two.

The stats don't lie ... the 8 speed auto is a very efficient piece of engineering on paper. There is still just something about being able to drive a manual transmission and know that you are in control.
At some point it will become just plain stubborn behavior to keep driving a manual, especially with technologies like BMW's DCT......but as long as they offer a manual, that is what gets ordered! |

I'll be interested in reading your feedback on the Melbourne Red Metallic.

Nice.
So aside from cosmetics, what are the differences between the 3 lines?

See this post:
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=10777506 I understand that as part of the mid-model cycle tweaks, the Speed Limit Information module will be upgraded to alert local law enforcement whenever you exceed the speed limit.

The project car has now gone into status 150 and the VIN has been produced! Starting to get excited about getting the car to drive. |

We basically were able to check out nearly the exact car in Detroit yesterday and I am psyched about getting one to spend more time with. The Melbourne Red color really is a great color for the car.
This wait is now just flat out killing me! |

It seems that the new 328i (F30) will be in the same price bracket as the current 330i (E90). Any comments?

The 2012 F30 3 series sedan base pricing is about $1000 up on the 2011 E90 328i. A modest price bump for the new chassis.

I don't think anyone knows for sure, but its a good guess it will be the same as the E90. We should have the info confirmed in a couple weeks. What wheels are you thinking about?
